1. What is stress ?
Stress is a symptom experienced when the body is exposed to strain during rest.

Some science about stress-
2. Normal Adult Male-
(a) 60 Kg
(b) Works for 08 hrs.
(c) Sedentary duty for 04 hrs.
(d) Sits/Lies down for 02 hrs.
(e) Sleeps for 08 hrs.

3. Brain utilises 33% of total body energy during effective mental work.

4. It has come to light during routine assessment of indl vis OPD's that-
(a) When either of the criteria for Normal Adult Male are affected, freq and intensity of stress increases proportionally.
(b) Effective Ratio of Work to Rest(ERWR) is 55:45. i.e if an Indl is working for 13 hrs in a day then his rest time should be 11 hrs.
(c) Effective Work to Rest Distribution(EWRD) Table :-

Any reduction in rest hrs comparative to work hrs results in stress.

5. There is a continous wear and tear and repair going on in the body throughout 24hrs. This will be apparently evident in Chronic Disease Patients/Bedridden Patients where the repair mechanism is deranged. Heavy energy utilisation occurs during repair. Hormonal release in blood to restore normalcy increases during rest hrs. The body though apparently at rest is highly active repairing itself. And any new heavy work stimulus/ severe mental strain(via phone call/ scoldings etc) during this repair reults in STRESS.

6. Myths in stress busters:-
(a) Music relieves stress- Its just a diversion from mental anxiety/depression. Also, music time is rest time. So, basically one incr rest hrs during listening to music.
(b) Psy Approach helps- Only if there is self generated internal mental strains like Psychosis/ Neurosis, which can be controlled with medications. Otherwise, in physical strains it will add to mental strain.
(c) BMI/Wt has no bearing on stress level- Wt more than +/- 10% exponentially increases rest time req and simultaneously stress.


7. Note:- In sleep the first 01-02 hrs are of REM sleep (Body gears up for hvy repair), disturbing the repair at this point of time is likely to induce damage to the body. In the succeeding hrs its NREM sleep(where body actually is repairing itself), disturbing the repair at this point can lead to faulty repair, incl exaggerated violence(which is a brain/ Psychogenic response, which lasts for fraction of seconds when all the senses start co-rrelating).

8. Here, it is concluded that Stress is easily avoidable, work hours management has to be efficiently observed. The supervisors need to be trained to extract max out of their employee with min effort.
